That home delivery has taken off is no longer news. But the fact that over the last three months, an average of 6.3 million orders have been placed exceeds the wildest expectations. Home delivery is growing against the odds.
Most popular delivery company is Thuisbezorgd.nl, followed at a distance by UberEats and Deliveroo. But our data and figures show that UberEats in particular has been growing strongly recently.

These orders are most often made at Thuisbezorgd.nl, followed at a distance by UberEats and Deliveroo.
Number of orders per delivery platform.
Over the last three months, Thuisbezorgd.nl has a share of over 50%. This is 21% higher compared to the average over the last ten months. UberEats is catching up with 72% higher, where Deliveroo is in between both players with 47%.

If we consider only those companies that provide food (i.e. restaurants and fast food outlets), we are talking about some 2.1 million orders that can be attributed to these channels. And in addition to these 2.1 million orders, there were also 2.4 million visits. Nearly 50/50, in other words. With especially the orders as a constant over time. Each period is the average per week over the past three months.
Comparison of number of restaurant visits and meal deliveries.
A closer look at the visits shows that a larger number of take-away visits took place at the beginning of the year, up to about one and a half times as many as in the last three to four months, but of course eating out on the spot in particular has increased enormously.
Looking only at fast food (i.e. without restaurants, ice cream parlours, lunchrooms and pure take-away/delivery locations), it is striking that deliveries form the bulk of the visits and that take-away is currently only a modest part of the number of visits.
Comparison of numbers in the fast food sector
Within the total food channel (restaurants and fast food service in particular), the importance per product has been indicated in order of the product in size, of the number of consumptions (times that the product is eaten, thus excluding drinks). In relation to the total number of orders of 6.3 million on average per week, it is clear how consumers obtain the product. Meat tops the list just above pizza, with pizza clearly being the most ordered product at 75%. The cheese/hamburger sandwich closes the row as the last in this top-20 ranking, of which also more than 55% is delivered. Fish, ice cream, vegetables and sandwiches are products that are mainly eaten at the table.
In terms of age, it is noticeable that deliveries are relatively high for the group under 35 years of age, at almost 50%. Much higher than the number of people in this age group. Nasi/bami, vegetables with meat or fish, and frikadel are stronger in the group older than 55 years. On the other hand, the sandwich, yoghurt/quark, hamburger including cheese/hamburger and noodles/wok are found more in the group under 35.

And because the growth in orders is mainly in the youngest group, it is clear which products are becoming more prominent, or are hitching a ride on the success.
